Share your Avondale story

It is absolutely my pleasure to be partnering with fellow resident Jane Darnell to be conducting an oral history project in Avondale Estates as part of the community’s Centennial

Goals for the project include:
1. To document and preserve living memories of life in Avondale Estates,
2. Create opportunities for residents to share memories with each other, and
3. Enable incorporation of oral histories into Centennial activities.

Interviews will be scheduled and recorded during 2026 and 2027 and are focused on memories of growing up, going to school, working, and living in Avondale Estates. Also of interest are community traditions, important places, changes over time, and other topics related to Avondale history. Interviews will be used to create a digital project and special program in September 2027 in conjunction with the Avondale Estates Centennial commemoration and public history students at Georgia State University. Interview recordings and transcripts will be later archived at the DeKalb History Center, where they will be made available for research and education purposes.

If you are interested in being interviewed or know someone who should be interviewed, please contact Kate Wilson at kathrynwilsonlaratte@gmail.com or Jane Darnell at janeonline@bellsouth.net.
